The Sparco Race 2 is SFI spec 3.3/5 shoe. That makes it legal for driver use during SCCA sanctioned road racing events. This is the shoe I currently use.

When it comes to a driving shoe, well let’s face it, how it works when driving the car is what is important. The pedal well in some cars is quite small and this shoe is slim. The Sparco Race 2 racing shoe wraps your feet in leather with no protrusions sticking out to catch on something. Wearing them is almost like being in your bare feet, sort of like a leather glove for your foot. The sole is also thin so pedal feel is excellent. The sole wraps up the back of the heel so when your foot is at rest on the floor pan it is resting on this portion of the sole. There is an expansion panel which makes ankle movement easy. The velcro strap keeps the laces tucked away so they don’t get caught on anything.

Mine are black with white stitching as shown in the picture. The leather is suede and it is a good looking shoe! The Sparco Race 2 racing shoe also seems to breath well and my feet don’t feel hot, even after wearing them for hours. The price can’t be beat for a SFI rated shoe and with the price considered, this is a high quality shoe. At time of purchase from a popular internet race gear site they were $140 usd (Q3 2024). I would recommend the Sparco Race 2 racing shoe if you need a good quality certified shoe at a budget price.

Update: Q1 2025
I have been wearing these shoe on a daily basis for months and they have held up really well. The most surprising thing about these shoes is that they are suede leather and I expected them to get dirty and be difficult to keep clean if worn on a daily basis. Generally, racing shoes aren’t used as daily footwear. The reason I began wearing them everyday is because they are really comfortable (to me). Because of being suede, I expected them to getting grubby very quickly. Instead, they still look great, even the white stitching.

Also, I have worn these shoes to events where I spent hours trudging through grass fields and gravel roads. I have worn them while working in the shop. I have worn them while driving the race car. The Sparco Race 2 has held up to all this abuse and still looks great, shows no defects or obvious signs of wear. Although the soles are thin and soft enough to feel like you are in your bare feet, they also show no signs of wear.
